Lebanon, Indiana - Eric Brian Lewis, 55, passed away August 10, 2025 at his home in Lebanon. He was born October 8, 1969 in Aurora, Colorado to Barney and Teresa (Ganshorn) Lewis. Following brief stints in Spokane, Washington and Edwards Air Force Base, California, the family returned to Indiana and eventually settled in Thorntown where Eric attended Western Boone High School and graduated in 1989.

As soon as he could toddle about, Eric absolutely adored the sport of football. He played youth football in Lebanon and eventually co-captained his high school team, capping off his career by playing for the WEBO team that won a state championship his senior year. He was a devoted Chicago Bears fan but also would root for the Indianapolis Colts, albeit somewhat less enthusiastically. Super Bowl XLI was a difficult time for him.

Eric's favorite vacation time was spent at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the month of May. He attended many different races at the Speedway but the Indy 500 was by far his favorite and he enjoyed spending time in a suite in the Pagoda during practice and then camping with friends at the track on race weekend for many years.

Music was an essential part of Eric's life. As a baby he would bop around to Simon and Garfunkel. Later as a kid, he'd strum air guitar to his rock gods, KISS. Upon receiving his first guitar as a teenager, he began making his own music and performed with a variety of local bands. He was a connoisseur of heavy metal music and appreciated the artistry of a perfectly orchestrated guitar riff.

Eric was extremely outgoing and always liked to be around friends and family, playing music, telling wild stories, imparting a never-ending stream of trivia tidbits, and laughing. So much laughing. He is survived by his parents, siblings Jocelyn and Aaron 'Barton' (Lindsey), all of his aunts and uncles and many cousins. An affectionate cat dad, he is preceded in death by a trio of beloved pets: Sammi, Gary and Roxy.

A celebration of life will be held October 11, 2-6 PM, at the Eagles Lodge in Lebanon. Please wear your favorite sports gear or band shirt and join others in reminiscing about Eric. Inappropriate stories are welcome. In lieu of flowers or any other gift, donations may be made to the Boone County Humane Society in his honor.
