Hobert Franklin "Jr." Deaton, 76, of Fayette, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at his home in Fayette.
Born in East Bernstadt, Ky., on Sept. 23, 1930, he was the son of the late Hobert and Myrtle (Lincks) Deaton. He married Virginia L. "Jenny" (Smith) Deaton in London, Ky. on Oct. 19, 1957, and she survives.
From Kentucky he moved to Indianapolis in the 1940s. He was a resident of Fayette since 1972. He served 1953 to 1957 as a parachute rigger and test jumper in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in Indianapolis at General Motors for 31 years, retiring in 1983 to do what he wanted to do most-remodel old houses. He loved to spend time at the Hardee's Restaurant in Lebanon having coffee and visiting with friends, and thoroughly enjoyed fishing with his great granddaughter. A devoted husband and family man, Mr. Deaton enjoyed his family and friends.
He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Fayette.
Survivors are also sons and daughters-in-law Douglas and Robin Deaton of Lebanon and Tom and Stephanie Deaton of New Market; brothers and sisters-in-law Dallas and Mattie Deaton and Don and Sarah Deaton, all of Brooklyn; grandchildren Spring Deaton, Samantha Deaton, Levi Deaton and Megan Deaton; stepgrandchildren John Williams and Samantha Williams; and a great-granddaughter Skylar Bilderback. One sister, Carolyn Joy Beasley and three brothers, Bobby Deaton, Jack Deaton and Dence "Big Bill" Deaton, are deceased.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, and for an hour prior to services, which are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 6300 S. S.R. 267, Fayette, Pastor Rick Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethesda Cemetery in Hendricks County.
