J.P. "Pete" Obituary

Mr. J.P. "Pete" Huddleston, 70, of Lafayette, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at his residence. He had battled leukemia and other illness for the past nine years.


Mr. Huddleston was born June 16, 1938, in Silver Point, Tenn., to the late Reuben E. and Beatrice Jones Huddleston. He attended Logansport High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959, receiving his GED while in the service.


He married Susan L. Burkhart on Oct. 30, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nev.; she survives.


Mr. Huddleston was an aerial photographer for the Air Force. He worked for ALCOA in Lafayette for 37 years in the sheet metal fabrication department in millwright maintenance, retiring in 2003.


He attended Christ United Methodist Church, Lafayette. He was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Club, helping organize that club's activities. He also was a member of the Logansport Eagles Lodge.


Mr. Huddleston enjoyed golf. He played for ALOCA and on the Eagles Lodge golf leagues. He enjoyed playing pool and was involved with the Cass County billiards league. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed reading, traveling, his family vacations and his dog. He dearly loved and cherished his wife, son, daughters, grandchildren and his extended family.


Survivors include his wife, who resides in Lafayette; son, Jeff W. Huddleston of Monticello; daughters, Michelle (Derrick) Webb of West Lafayette and Jennifer L. Stonebraker of Lafayette; brother, Glen (Agnes) Huddleston of Logansport; sister, Shirley Story of San Diego, Calif.; stepson, Ed (Angie) Elkins of Leesburg; stepdaughter, Marilee (Eric) Gates of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.


Mr. Huddleston was preceded in death by five brothers; two sisters; and his former wife, Ginger B. Huddleston.


Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church, 3610 S. 18th St., Lafayette. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Scott Mann officiating. Burial will take place at Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia/lymphoma Society or Christ United Methodist Church building fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
