Mr. John Donald "J.D." Downing, 52, of Thorntown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Witham Memorial Hospital, Lebanon.. John was born in Dayton, Ohio, on Aug. 16, 1958, the son of the now late James and Ann (Heberling) Downing. John was raised in Dayton where he graduated from Belmont High School. He attended Miami University of Ohio in Oxford and Wright State University in Dayton. After years of managing a Pilot transportation station in Youngstown, Ohio, John retired in fall 2009 and moved to Boone County in spring 2010.. A pleasant, fun-loving man, John (J.D.) never married but loved being the eternal uncle to his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and family, reading and working in the yard. But most of all, he enjoyed going to his nieces' and nephews' sporting events and family gatherings.. J.D. was always willing to help anyone. He was loved and cared for by all those who met him. He was always thankful for the open spirit of the people he came in contact with in the Thorntown and Lebanon areas.. Survivors include uncle and aunt Mr. Walter and wife Dorothy Dolinski of Youngstown, Ohio; cousins Walt and Kim Dolinski of Thorntown; Darren and Mary Jo Morelli of Youngstown; Judy Felhaber of Toledo, Ohio; Matt and Teri Breno, Orlando, Fla.; nephews Walt and Joey Dolinski of Columbus, Ohio; Nick Felhaber of Toledo; and Lucas Breno of Orlando; nieces Gina and Leah Morelli of Youngstown; and Katie Breno of Orlando.. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.. Cremation has been entrusted to Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon..
