Thorntown, Indiana - Michael D. Hankins, 72, of Thorntown, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on February 28, 1953, in Lebanon, the son of the late Guy W. and Frances (Hungerford) Hankins.

Mike took great pride in his fresh meat market at Hankins Supermarket. Later, he obtained his realtor license and worked for Tucker in Zionsville before partnering with Jon Stookey to purchase Stookey's restaurant in Thorntown. While at Stookey's, he added steaks to the menu of their famous catfish and onion rings. He retired from Stookey's in 2013.

Mike was involved in Thorntown Businessmen Association, Thorntown Kiwanians, JC's, Thorntown K of P, and Lebanon Elks.

He married Donna Koontz Hankins on July 14, 1972, and were married for 52 years. They had three children, Christopher Hankins of Sheridan, Matthew (Amy) Hankins of Thorntown, and Ashley (Jared) Hankins of Zionsville. Grandchildren include Alyssa Hankins and Rhiannon Hankins of Michigan, Allie Hankins of Kirkland, Ally Grace Warmoth of Lebanon, Brady Warmoth of Thorntown, Ryder Warmoth of Thorntown, and Blake Warmoth of Thorntown. He is also survived by his sisters, Charlotte (Rex) Graham of Pittsboro, Darlene (Don) Johnson of Thorntown, and Sherri (Mike) Mays of Pittsboro.

Mike looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Michigan with his lifelong friend Michael (Cindy) Stevens of Thorntown and enjoyed golf. He loved vacationing in the Caribbean and deep-sea fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and many dear friends, and will be missed dearly.
